The MCL (medial collateral ligament) runs along the inside of your knee and helps stabilize side-to-side movement. It’s often injured in contact sports or due to a direct blow to the outer knee.
Symptoms include localized pain, swelling, and difficulty bending the knee. You may also feel instability while standing or walking.
Treatment Options:
Mild to moderate injuries (Grade 1 & 2): Respond well to bracing, rest, and guided strengthening exercises.
Severe tears (Grade 3): Surgery may be needed if the ligament is completely torn or if the joint is unstable.
With early diagnosis and rehab, most people recover full function without complications.
